The rule of thumb used to be the closer you were to the Peninsula beaches, the more trendy you were, and for the idle rich (the “Novii Armenii”), this still goes, the social wannabes moving in packs from one hot spot to another in a small area between Harsnaqar (Sevan’s so-called “five star” hotel) and the peninsula (“Flamingo” still rounding them up at its large outdoor disco). If you like wall to wall people preening on the beach and eyeing everyone in sight to stack up the body competition, you’ll love this area (you’ll also like it if you love irony and want to study just how provincial these jet-setters can be). Seriously, this is where the heavy action is at Sevan, and money and sense of local fashion is de rigueur.
